When to run a Thanksgiving giveaway in 2026

US Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026, and Black Friday follows the next day. Canadian Thanksgiving has passed for this year (it was October 12). The next one is Monday, October 11, 2027.

Two timings work:

  • Before the day, if the prize helps people celebrate: a pie, a table set or a hosting kit. Open entries around November 16, close them November 20 and deliver, or have it collected, by Wednesday, November 25.
  • Over the holiday, if it's a thank-you: open Monday, November 23, close on Thanksgiving morning and announce the winner that day. The prize can arrive later, as long as your rules say when.

Add a donation to a local food bank and name it in your rules. Make it a fixed amount, not money per comment, so you're not paying for engagement.

Thanksgiving giveaway rules to add

Start from one of our giveaway rule templates and add these lines:

  • Delivery date. Say whether the prize arrives before Thanksgiving or after, and give a date. Carriers are busy that week.
  • Food prizes. Make perishable prizes local pick-up only, with a pick-up window, and list the main allergens.
  • Who can enter. It's a US holiday, so "Open to US residents aged 18 or older" is often the simplest eligibility line. Canadian followers can get their own giveaway in October.
  • Who the winner is. The person who commented wins. Anyone they tag isn't an entrant, even if they share the prize.
  • Your @mention setting. If entrants must tag someone, set the minimum @mentions in Gifty to 1. If a comment alone counts, set it to 0.

For a US giveaway, keep "No purchase necessary" in the rules, even when the prize is something you sell.
