These are Unicode symbols, not real fonts. Screen readers may read them as math symbols or skip them, so keep your @username, prize, dates and contact details in plain text.

How to use Instagram fonts

  1. 1. Type your text

Write your name, a bio line or the first line of a caption. Every style updates as you type, and emojis stay as they are.

  2. 2. Choose where it goes

Pick Name, Bio, Caption, Comment or Story. The counter shows the length of your text, and for Name, Bio and Caption how much room you have left.

  3. 3. Copy a style

Tap a card to copy it. Star the styles you like and they're saved as favorites in your browser.

  4. 4. Paste it into Instagram

For your name or bio, go to your profile, tap Edit profile and paste. For captions, comments and Stories, paste wherever you type.

Styles and extras

Dozens of styles
Bold, italic, bold italic, script, bold script, gothic, double-struck, sans, sans bold, monospace, wide, circled and squared letters, small caps, strikethrough, underline, upside-down and bubble letters.
Character counter
Instagram limits the name to 30 characters, the bio to 150 and a caption to 2,200. The counter tracks the field you picked. Some styled letters may count differently in the app, so leave a little room.
Decorations
Add star frames, sparkles or dividers around a line, and keep your own emojis.
Warnings that matter
Styles that drop letters, such as accented ones, are marked, and so are styles that may show up as boxes on some phones.
Plain text check
Switch it on for a rough idea of how a screen reader may read your line. It lists each symbol's Unicode name, in English.
Favorites and sharing
Copy all your favorites at once, share a link with your text and style, or save a profile mockup image (a generic sample, not your real Instagram).

What these Instagram fonts really are

Instagram doesn't let you choose a font for your name, bio or captions. What you copy here are Unicode characters: letters from math and symbol sets that happen to look bold, cursive or gothic. Instagram shows them like any other text, which is why they paste anywhere. It also explains their limits:

  • Accented letters can go missing. Most styles have no version of ç, ã, é, ñ, ü, ş, ğ, ı, İ or ß. Math-based styles like bold or script add the accent mark to the styled letter, circled and squared styles keep the plain letter, and letters with no styled version, like the Turkish ı or the German ß, are marked on the card.
  • Screen readers struggle. They may read styled letters as math symbols or skip them. Use styles for decoration, not for key information like a prize, a date or how to contact you.
  • Your @username can't use them. Instagram only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores there. In the Name field they work, but people who search for your name in plain letters may not find you.
  • Some phones show boxes. Older devices may not have every symbol and show empty squares instead. Styles known to show up as empty boxes on some phones (bubble, dark squares and upside-down) carry a "may not show on all phones" badge.
  • Styled hashtags don't match. A hashtag in fancy letters isn't the same tag as the plain one, so keep hashtags plain.

Styling a giveaway post

Fancy letters work best as a hook: one bold GIVEAWAY line, a few sparkles, a styled first word. Keep everything people need to enter in plain text: the prize, the steps, the closing date and the rules. Everyone can read plain text, including people using screen readers, and nobody misses a deadline because a style dropped a letter.

Need the words too? Copy a giveaway caption template, browse giveaway ideas or write your giveaway rules.

Where styled text works well

A little goes a long way:

  • Your name, or one word you want to stand out in your bio
  • The first line of a caption, before the "more" cut-off
  • Section headings in a long caption or a carousel
  • A short line in a Story, next to Instagram's own Story fonts
  • Skip it in your @username, hashtags, prize details and contact info

Instagram fonts FAQ

How do I change the font on Instagram?

Instagram has no font setting for your profile or captions. Type your text here, copy a style and paste it into Instagram. Stories also have their own built-in fonts in the text tool.

How do I get a different font in my Instagram bio?

Choose Bio, type your line and copy a style. Then go to your profile, tap Edit profile and paste it into Bio. Keep your contact details plain so everyone can read them.

Can I use these fonts in my Instagram username?

No. Usernames only accept letters, numbers, periods and underscores. You can use a style in the Name field, which shows above your bio, but plain-letter searches may not find a styled name.

Why do some letters show up as boxes?

The phone viewing your profile doesn't have that symbol, so it shows an empty square. It mostly happens on older devices. Pick a style without the badge, or keep that line plain.

Why are my accented letters missing?

Most Unicode styles were made for plain A to Z and have no ç, é, ñ, ü or ß. Math-based styles like bold or script add the accent mark to the styled letter, while circled and squared styles keep the plain letter. Letters with no styled version, like the Turkish ı or the German ß, are marked on the card.

Do fancy fonts work in captions, comments and Stories?

Yes, you can paste them anywhere you type on Instagram. Watch the length in captions and keep hashtags plain, since a styled hashtag isn't the same tag.

Are Instagram fonts bad for accessibility?

They can be. Screen readers may read them as math symbols or skip them. Use them for a word or two of decoration and keep the important parts in plain text.

Is this Instagram font generator free?

Yes. It's free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our servers.
