How a random comment picker works

Every random comment picker follows the same four steps:

Collect the comments from the post or reel you choose.
Build the entry list. Duplicate accounts are merged, so each person appears once.
Apply your rules, such as a minimum number of @mentions, and drop the comments that don't qualify.
Draw at random. A random number generator picks positions on the list, so every remaining entry has the same chance.

Gifty does all four on your iPhone. It collects comments from up to 1,000 participants per draw, counts each account once, applies your @mention rule and picks winners with Apple's secure system random number generator.

Why not scroll and pick yourself? Because people aren't random. We stop on the top comments, the newest ones or names we recognize, and your followers have no way to check how you chose. A picker with a recorded draw takes you out of the decision.

What counts as a valid entry

Decide this before you post and put it in your rules. Gifty applies the first two for you. Check the rest on your winners before you announce them.

One entry per account, however many times someone comments. Gifty removes duplicates.
The comment has at least the number of @mentions your rules ask for. Set the same minimum in Gifty.
The comment is on the giveaway post itself, not on a story or another post.
It was posted before the closing time you announced. Draw soon after entries close and check the time on each winning comment.
Tagged accounts are real people, not brands, celebrities, fake accounts or the host.
The entrant meets your eligibility rules, such as minimum age and country.
Your own account, your team and their families are excluded.
Any follow or like requirement is met. Gifty doesn't check follows or likes, so look at the winner's profile.

How to pick a random comment with Gifty

You need an iPhone with iOS 15 or later and a giveaway post or reel on a public account.

1. Close entries on time

Stop at the closing time in your rules. If you're drawing live, tell your followers when you'll start.
2. Copy the post link

In Instagram, open the giveaway post or reel, tap the share button and copy the link.
3. Paste the link into Gifty

That's all Gifty needs. There's no Instagram login or password.
4. Set your rules

Choose the number of winners and alternates, the minimum @mentions and the countdown length. Turn on screen recording if you want video proof.
5. Run the draw

Gifty loads the comments, removes duplicate accounts, counts down and shows your winners and alternates with their username and profile photo.
6. Check and announce

Check each winner against your rules. If someone doesn't qualify or doesn't reply, go to the next alternate. Share the screenshot or the video when you announce.

Is there a free Instagram comment picker?

Gifty is free to download, and each draw uses one giveaway credit bought in the app, with no subscription. For a short list, you can paste usernames into our free random name picker, which runs in your browser.

Does commenting more than once give more chances?

Not with Gifty. Each Instagram account counts once, no matter how many comments it leaves. Say so in your rules, so nobody floods the post expecting extra entries.

How many comments can Gifty handle?

Each draw includes up to 1,000 participants, meaning unique Instagram accounts. Someone who comments five times counts as one participant with one entry.

Can I pick a random comment from a reel?

Yes. Paste the reel's link the same way as a post. Stories and highlights aren't supported.

Does it work with private accounts?

No. The giveaway post has to be on a public Instagram account.

Do I have to give Gifty my Instagram password?

No. Gifty only needs the link to the post. There's no Instagram login.

Do I need an Instagram Business or Creator account?

No. Gifty only needs the link to a public post or reel, so it works with personal, creator and business accounts alike, as long as the account is public. You don't connect Instagram or a Facebook page, and you never enter a password.

Can I pick several winners from the same comments?

Yes. Set the number of winners and alternates before you start. Everyone is picked in the same draw, so you don't need a second draw if a winner drops out.

Does Gifty give a certificate or a public results page?

No. Proof comes from the draw itself: turn on the countdown and screen recording, then post the video, which is saved to Photos, with the winners' usernames. Alternates come from the same draw, so you never have to redraw in private.
